An Overview of the Anthrax Threat in the United States

Author: Manisha Samy

In the course of the following blog postings, one will receive an overview of the anthrax scare in United States. This includes information on the biological agent it is derived from, a summary of its use in history as a biological weapon, and a critical review of a study aiming to model the most efficacious and cost-effective stockpiling and dispensing strategy of medical and pharmaceutical supplies in the event of another anthrax bioterrorism attack. Through the process of critically evaluating the study, the blog postings will further explore any assumptions made in the original study and will extend its analysis and provide further information to consider. Such evaluations will include, but is not limited to, government strategies in the development of anthrax countermeasures, anthrax biosurveillance technologies and limitations, impact of distributing MedKits, and the effect of human fear of potential anthrax exposure on mortality rates given an anthrax bioterrorism attack.
